Clayton Lessor Review Part Two - Healthy Man

So back to the documentary I referred to last week.  The Mask You Live In , has some great examples of how bad it is for troubled boys, but no concrete examples of what is good, or going beyond talking and giving examples of what is working. (more…)

The Mask You Live In - SOS - Part One by Clayton Lessor

Last week I was honored to be asked by Raintree School to be a panelist after the screening of The Mask You Live In.

If you haven’t heard of or seen the documentary it’s worth watching.  It is based on Boys Are in Trouble. Nothing new right, you’ve been hearing me and everyone else say that same thing, and now there is a new documentary on the issue. (more…)

Boys Are In Trouble - Clayton Lessor

One of the first blogs I wrote was Our Boys Are in Trouble and here I am reminding you again, why you ask?  Because it’s not getting any better; as a society we’re failing our boys. (more…)

Book In Hand - Saving Our Sons Proof

I have to say, the feeling of holding this book in my hands is hard to put in words!  It has been a labor of love and it’s finally here! (more…)

Spring Time Renewal - Clayton Lessor

Spring is one of my favorite seasons.  The days get longer and the sun shines brighter, it feels like a time of renewal.  I tend to feel more like setting expectations for myself in the Spring.

Resolutions Are For Everyday

I have never been one to do New Years resolutions; I don’t believe you “resolve” to do something because it’s a new year.  I believe in a resolution to live in mission everyday.  But even with that said, I’d be more likely to make a great resolution in the Spring when the grass is green, and the sun is shining in the blue sky!  (more…)

Modern Day Rite of Passage - Clayton Lessor

Rite of Passage?

I’m often asked what is a “rite of passage?”  It’s a term that most people equate with times past.  We have forgotten the importance of rite of passage with not only our boys, but girls too.

Look Out Things Are Changing

Rite of passage is a transition, and in it’s simplest terms means “changing from a boy to a man,” or from a “girl to a woman.”  Sounds easy enough right?  It should be, but as a society we have gotten away from not only honoring but even recognizing this time in an individuals life.

The Best Dad - Clayton Lessor

I’d like to share the story of a young man and his dad. This young man and his family are actually one of the Case Studies in my forthcoming book “Saving Our Sons” A Parent’s Guide to Preparing Boys for Success.

Meet Dylan

“Dylan” was full of anger the first time we met. According to his parents his temper was “always” explosive (learned behavior from dad). When Dylan’s mom and dad separated and ultimately divorced, Dylan’s anger escalated. He would beat the walls of his room with a bat, break things in his path, and lash out at anyone in his way.

Keeping It Real - Grief and Grieving - Clayton Lessor

Today as I began to write I was keenly aware I was sad.  What was I sad about?  It was exactly 2 years ago today that my father-in-law died, and I was sad.  That led me to my inspiration for this blog – grief and grieving.

By Definition

There are many definitions of grief, the one I like best is by The Grief Recovery Institute:

“Grief is the normal and natural emotional reaction to loss or change of any kind.  Of itself, grief is neither a pathological condition nor a personality disorder.  Grief is the conflicting feelings caused by the end of or change in a familiar pattern of behavior.”

Remember Sandy Hook - Clayton Lessor

Remember Sandy Hook?

Why now you ask do I bring up Sandy Hook?  Well as many of you know I am coming to the end of my PhD studies; as a matter of fact I’m finishing my last two courses as I write this.  A recent assignment was to discuss the horrible events that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School back in 2012.

What Has Happened to Guys - Clayton Lessor

I was watching the movie “Intern” the other night with Ann Hathaway and Robert De Niro.  To be honest I prefer a good science fiction or action movie.  Once in a while my wife needs a break so we watch a love story or comedy.  I really liked this movie, aside from Ann Hathaway crying too much, she touched on something I thought was worth blogging about.
